Prime Striped Bass Fishing Conditions on Lake Murray fishing report coverpicture

May 2, 2025

Lake Murray - Lexington, SC Fishing Report on 2nd May, 2025

The striped bass bite is strong on Lake Murray this week, with anglers seeing excellent action in both the upper and lower sections of the lake. The water temperature is hovering around the mid-60s, making it an ideal time for striped bass to actively feed. Anglers are catching fish ranging from 3 to 10 pounds, with some larger trophy-sized bass being reported, especially in deeper waters. The best method for targeting striped bass right now is trolling with deep-diving crankbaits or using downriggers to target fish at depths of 15 to 30 feet. Live bait such as shad and herring has also been very effective for those fishing with jigs or weights. Early mornings and late afternoons are prime times, as the fish are more likely to be active during these cooler parts of the day. In addition to trolling, there are also reports of successful shore fishing around the shallower areas near bays and coves, especially near submerged structures where striped bass tend to gather. If you’re targeting the larger fish, fishing near the dam or deeper channels has been very productive. Overall, if you're heading out to Lake Murray for some striped bass action, be prepared for an exciting trip. With continued warm weather, the bite should stay strong in the coming weeks. Be sure to check local regulations on bag limits and size requirements to ensure a successful and compliant outing. Happy fishing!
